Tom Niedenfuer is an award-winning artist who specializes in three-dimensional landscape paintings. His focus today is the bluffs and rock formations along the St. Croix River. Sculpting and forming plaster with carving tools on a wood canvas, Tom accurately recreates the three-dimensional surface of the rock and then realistically renders the scene using acrylic paints with various application tools.
He hand crafts each frame using re-purposed wood.
Tom’s artistic intention is to capture the spirit and beauty of the natural wonders along this treasured St. Croix riverway.
Tom was born an artist. Early on, as a resident of St. Paul, he specialized in pen and ink drawings of historic homes throughout the Twin Cities. Later he used his sculpting and painting skills to render original, large-scale murals and three-dimensional landscapes in commercial and residential buildings in both Minnesota and Florida.
Since moving to the Taylors Falls area in 2017, Tom’s artwork has been imbued with his love for the area, particularly the St. Croix River Valley. In 2018, his work won the People’s Choice Award in the Wyoming Area Creative Arts Community Mixed Media Art Show, and the People’s Choice Award at the East Central Regional Arts Council “IMAGE” show in Braham, Minn.
In 2019, his work won 2 more People's Choice awards in the "In" Art Show and the Nature's Elements Art Show at the Wyoming Center for the Arts.
